Family Reunions

Why are Family Reunions Important ?

We all need to re-connect.

Connection is the biggest reason to plan a reunion. A reunion re-establishes that connection we felt growing up when cousins were visiting regularly and we went for Sunday dinners at Grandma’s house.

Journal of Family Psychology study showed that 59% of adolescents reported learning new and meaningful information about grandparents from family reunions.

As humans, we crave that sense of belonging, attachment and a connection to others. Knowing your background, that sense of who we are as a family, helps to develop a stronger sense of family.

Lifestyles are busier now. Sometimes we forget to put importance on sharing our time with family. But, rituals, such as family reunions, are associated with marital satisfaction, adolescents’ sense of personal identity, mental health, academic achievement and stronger family relationships.
